Some time ago, I have written a post advising photography lovers on how to make money on photography and earn either extra income, or to make photography your profession. The ideas I have written in that post had nothing to do with traditional ways for photographers, I mean wedding photography, or selling photography on stock websites.
Despite being fine art photographer, I am also graphic designer and website designer. In my design work, I often need loads of images for websites I create for my clients. Of course, I buy photography on stock, but it often makes me feel that I use images without heart and style, images that I may encounter on dozens of other websites. I don't like it, as such websites are not unique and has nothing to do with true art. Where then graphic designers may purchase unique images? That question led me to the new idea I want to share with you.

That simple idea helped me to solve the problem of obtaining right visual materials for recent web design project. I was asked to design website for Angel Therapist. To my surprise, the search of angel related images on stock turned out to be horrible, without taste images, completely out of angel like mood. I had a clear mental picture of what the website should look like, yet I could find noting to purchase. Then, I remembered one of my Internet-met friends, Suzanne Chouinard from Canada, who makes stunning fractal works, I asked Suzanne to sell me several fractal works for designing the website. For me, it didn't cost me much, but for Suzanne it was an opportunity to earn some money. Moreover, she won some back links to her website as I have included her portfolio into my designer portfolio and credits page.

This time it was designer who helped photographer make money on art work and the photographer who helped designer in her design project. I think that you too, may look for making relationships with freelance graphic and website designers and offer them your fine art works for their designs.
Maybe it's time to break traditional ways of making income for artists?
I know some artists who think that showing their works in highly respected art galleries is the only right way for serious artists. I, personally think and believe, that we do art for people, not for art specialists. Displaying art works in places people spend their ordinary days is as good if not bettert than in the galleries. I think that's high time to bring art to people. And selling your fine art photographs for designers to include them into their commercial projects is a great way to do that.
